MP3 & WAV Audio
High-fidelity, local audio playback. No buffering, no streaming compression, just pure bits decoded directly by your browser.
Uncompressed audio playback
Audio professionals, musicians, and archivists often deal with large, uncompressed WAV or FLAC files. Uploading these to a cloud service for a quick listen is incredibly inefficient and often results in the service transcoding the file to a lower bitrate for streaming.
uplayfile utilizes the Web Audio API and HTML5 Audio elements to play these files natively. Because the file resides on your local disk, there is zero buffering and zero network-induced compression.
Supported Audio Formats
As with video, audio support is tied to your specific browser's decoding capabilities. Most modern browsers support a wide array of audio codecs.
| Format | Description | Browser Support |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 | Lossy standard | Universal |
| WAV | Uncompressed PCM | Universal |
| FLAC | Lossless compressed | Most Modern Browsers |
| Ogg Vorbis | Open source lossy | Universal (except older Safari) |
Metadata and ID3 Tags
Audio files often contain rich metadata (ID3 tags in MP3s) including album art, artist, and track information. uplayfile's parser can extract and display this information client-side without relying on external database lookups like MusicBrainz or Gracenote. Check out our Metadata Viewer tool for deep inspection.
